Kara & Lee’s Micro-Wedding: A Family-Only Celebration in Chelsea

Kara and Lee’s wedding wasn’t about the big details—it was about the meaningful ones. With just a small group of immediate family, they said “I do” in a relaxed, heartwarming ceremony at the eternally charming Chelsea Old Town Hall.

The weather was perfect, Kara was glowing in her understated gown, and Lee could not stop smiling! From the first moments in the waiting room, it was clear: this wasn’t just a wedding—it was a deeply personal celebration of their journey together.

A Ceremony Focused on Connection

Inside the intimate ceremony room, the atmosphere was full of feeling. No distractions, no long guest lists—just the people who meant the most to them. I saw joyful tears, warm laughter, and a sense of calm that made the whole experience feel especially intimate.

It’s these smaller weddings I adore photographing. Everyone is present, relaxed, and you can really feel the emotion unfold naturally in front of the lens.

Relaxed Portraits and a Stroll Through Chelsea

After the ceremony, we lingered for a few family portraits on the grand steps of the Old Town Hall; and from there, we wandered across the King’s Road and tucked into a few quiet side streets for couple portraits. Kara and Lee walked hand-in-hand, taking it all in. No pressure, just time to be together, soak in the moment, and enjoy their first stroll as newlyweds. The nearby park was also pretty quiet so we stopped in there too for some nature-inspired shots.

Why Small Can Be So Powerful

This wedding reminded me how powerful small weddings can be. There’s a certain ease that comes when the pressure is off. It’s about love, not logistics. Kara and Lee’s day felt joyful, authentic, and beautifully theirs from start to finish.

Alice and Luke's Chelsea Wedding | Chelsea Old Town Hall

Alice and Luke chose The Brydon Room at popular Chelsea Old Town Hall for their Spring wedding. The Brydon Room is one of my favourites at Chelsea Old Town Hall for its natural light and intimate setting.

(The Brydon Room comfortably seats 38 guests and can cost from £575 in the quieter Winter period, to £1020 in the Summer months, depending on the day of the week).

After a few pictures with the couple’s boy Ollie, it was time to return him to Mummy and await the arrival of his bride-to-be!

6 Reasons I love Shooting Weddings at Chelsea Old Town Hall

Wedding Photography at Chelsea Old Town Hall

Chelsea Old Town Hall is a popular wedding venue in London, known for its elegant and historic architecture and central location. I’ve been a wedding photographer there for quite some time now and here are some of the many reasons I love it so much..

1. Beautiful architecture: This Grade II building in Chelsea, is a stunning example of Victorian architecture, with intricate details and classic design features. It has been lovingly restored and provides a beautiful backdrop for your wedding photography. I always love shooting in building like this. I love looking at the many backgrounds and the quality of the window light coming through. I aim to capture and utilize as much of this as we possible can for your wedding photography.

2. Central location: Chelsea Old Town Hall is located in the heart of Chelsea, at the end of the Kings Road. Making it a convenient choice for couples and guests who are coming from different parts of London. There are also plenty of hotels for everyone to stay in and lots of cool pubs and restaurants nearby. Many of whom will gladly host your wedding lunch/reception.

3. Variety of ceremony rooms: Chelsea Old Town Hall offers a range of ceremony rooms to choose from, each with its own unique style and character. Whether you're looking for a grand and opulent space or something more intimate and cozy, there's a room to suit your needs. Here are some images I shot recently in the Rossetti Room and The Brydon Room.

4. Experienced staff: The staff at Chelsea Old Town Hall are experienced in hosting weddings and will work with you to ensure that your day runs smoothly. The are SO friendly to wedding photographers, and very helpful and accomodating allowing us to take the best wedding photography possible. To brides and grooms to be, they can offer advice and guidance on everything from the ceremony format to the catering options. They have always been super helpful and friendly to me and one of the reasons I love coming back.

5. Flexibility: The venue is flexible in terms of the type of ceremony you can have, whether it's a civil ceremony, partnership, or renewal of vows. You can also choose to have a religious ceremony in one of the licensed rooms.

6. The Steps Outside: And finally the steps outside! The famous Chesea Old Town Hall steps!! A perfect place for your group shots. And just LOVE confetti shots here!!

Lizzie and Max's Wedding Photography | Chelsea Old Town Hall | Kings Road | London

Lizzie and Max wanted a wedding photographer who was discreet and produced natural images of their small, intimate wedding day. So I was happy to help! The wedding took place at popular registry office Chelsea Old Town Hall on Chelsea's fashionable Kings Road. Walking distance to both Sloane Square and South Kensington tube stations, it is certainly well placed for you and your guests to get to. Afterward the ceremony and a few groups shots, we walked over to traditional Chelsea pub The Surprise for champagne and canapes.
